  22. SYMPTOM:
  23. Pagemaker 5.0 returns an error "A network error was detected.  Please
  24. verify you are properly logged in..." when trying to load on a
  25. Personal Netware workstation.  It is a Personal Netware only
  26. enviroment with no other Novell Netware connectivity.  Pagemaker is
  27. installed locally and NOT being ran across the PNW network.  
  28.  
  29. If VLMs are removed from memory, Pagemaker returns an error "A copy
  30. of Pagemaker with network ID XXXX is already in use.  You can restart
  31. Pagemaker once the other user quits their copy...."  
  32.  
  33. The above symptoms are seen with the Pagemaker single-user version
  34. and also 5-user versions.
  35.  
  36. CAUSE:
  37. The issue resides between Pagemaker and Netware.drv.  For Personal
  38. NetWare Windows functionality, modifications are made to the
  39. SYSTEM.INI; under [BOOT] the network= line is set to
  40. network=netware.drv. Upon loading, Pagemaker checks to see if a
  41. Novell Network present, and if found (through NetWare.drv) a NCP OPEN
  42. SEMAPHORE call is made.  The NCP OPEN SEMAPHORE is supported on
  43. Novell NetWare bindery based 2.X and 3.X servers only.  PNW is not a
  44. bindery based Novell Network and does not provide bindery emulation
  45. functionality.

  47. SOLUTION:
  48. Pagemaker will not work in a Personal Netware only environment.  PNW
  49. does not support the NCP OPEN SEMAPHORE call.  
  50.  
  51. If the network environment includes PNW and other Novell Netware
  52. bindery based 2.X or 3.X servers which the user attaches, Pagemaker
  53. will load without the above mentioned errors.
  54.  
  55. If Netware.drv is removed from the network= line, under [Boot] in
  56. SYSTEM.INI, Pagemaker will load but user will not have PNW
  57. functionality in Windows.
  58.  
  59. Adobe, who purchased Aldus Pagemaker, is aware of the issue and will
  60. address it in a future Pagemaker release.
